Dusk approaches, the mountain has become quiet, and the last of the skiers and boarders have headed home. Sitting at the top, taking in the views and silence, you and your ski buddy reminisce and laugh about the powder shots that day. As you toast to your friendship and take in the moment one more time, you both get that grin, knowing this is one of those rare and special moments - It is all yours... Last tracks.

While it is extreme and harsh, the high desert provides peace and solitude. The process of creating this piece encompassed all of these attributes and, in the end, captured part of what makes the high desert so beautiful.

A good friend of mine is a talented artist and craftsman who has a passion for designing, crafting, and refurbishing guitars. Over the years he has shown me his work and demonstrated his amazing precision and patience required to be a true Luthier. "Dream of the Luthier" was inspired by my feelings of awe of this amazingly detailed and precise craft.

One might think this sculpture is all about the guitar, its smooth form and curves, its soulful sound, its warm feel. What started as an exploration into the world of the luthier, gradually became a search for, and discovery of, something far different.

Alabaster Cow Skull

2007 (12" x 24")
Hand Carved Alabaster, Slate
Not for sale, commissions available.
My original vision for this sculpture was to be an animal mask of sorts. As I carved and filed the outer layers of the soft alabaster, the stone morphed between mask, bone and abstract form. Eventually, the piece became an interesting blend of each of these.

Daybreak

2013 (3" x 3")
Horseshoes / Glass Mirror
Sold
Only a trace of the West is left in this piece as it brightens up a room.

Kelp

2007 (5' x 15")
Formed Steel / Rust Patina
Sold, more coming soon.
Kelp is reminiscent of my earlier days, scuba diving in the Puget Sound area. Yet, place it on the wall and it becomes the movement of the wind.

Midnight Ride

2009 (36"x 84"x6")
Found Metal / Steel / Horseshoes
$5,500.00
Midnight Ride is one of those pieces that took on a life of its own as it was designed and fabricated, teaching me something every step of the way. What started out as a close-up image of our horse’s face and eye gradually became a magical story of a moonlit evening group ride my wife experienced in central Oregon.

Breyer Horse

2007 (2” x 6" x 10")
Forged Steel / Patina
Not for sale, commissions available.
These two Breyer Horses were sculpted for a couple whose two children drew wonderful crayon pictures of what a toy Breyer Horse looked like to them. They each saw the horse figure quite differently. These two pieces now reside in a glass case in their home, where the family will always be reminded of a unique world seen through children's eyes. "Project Something to Say" is ongoing and I always love working with families to bring their children's wonderful artwork out into the world.

Spring is Here

2006 (2" x 6" x 10" & 2" x 4" x 6")
Formed Steel / Wire
Not for sale, commissions available.
This piece is an interpretation of one of my own childhood drawings. It is a self-portrait with accompanying non-rhyming rhyme from my childhood, "I can tell spring is here because my dogs are barking". Clearly, I had something important to say back in kindergarten. This is art therapy at its finest!

Lunch For Makayla

2006 (48"x24"x24")
Formed Steel / Heat Colored
Not for sale, commissions available.
Lunch for Makayla was one of my earlier works, a part of what I called "Project Something to Say", where I worked with families to bring their own children's artwork to life. Our daughter left us a wonderfully honest note, with drawing, expressing her school lunch content manifesto. This sculpture now greets us every time we look out into our garden, laughing and waving in the breeze, reminding us of a beautiful time in our daughter's life, and, of course, exactly what she likes for lunch.

Cow Jumping Over The Moon

2006 (4' x 3')
Formed / Heat Colored / Steel
Not for sale, commissions available.
This commissioned piece was sculpted from a drawing done by a young girl whose family wanted a piece of art for their entryway into their beautiful home. What better artwork to greet guests than a meaningful sculpture and keepsake inspired by their young child's drawing.

Warrior

2008 (20"x11"x2")
Limestone, gold leaf
NFS
Stone is a hard, painstaking, and brittle medium to work with, therefore usually slow to carve. This form was carved quickly and with very little planning. Warrior emerged quite independent of any intent or vision I had. Unfortunately, Warrior was a bit too independent and disappeared without a trace.
